The Bible definition of faith is “The substance of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Go on to read the rest of the chapter and you will find a list of Old Testament people who had faith in God and obeyed Him even though they couldn’t see Him with their eyes.
Faith is believing that what God says He will do. Read Acts 27:25 about Paul, the missionary who was promised by God in a dream he would not die in a shipwreck. Paul believed this promise and it came true. That is faith-believing God always keeps His promises and waiting to see it happen in your life.
God promises to save you from your sins if you have faith in His Son, Jesus. Faith for salvation is a gift for God (Eph. 2:8-9). Without the Bible no one could have gift of faith in Christ.
Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” It also says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” You become a Christian by believing what he Bible says about Jesus-that he died, was buried and rose again (see 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
Once you’re a Christian, God wants you to have faith in Him to help you live each day- trusting Him with every situation. So how do you get more faith? As you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart (the real you) and helps you believe what the Bible says. The more you read and believe the Bible, the more faith you’ll have in God.
